Long Overdue – Barfly’s two cents…
…general comments regarding the “state” of skateboarding and the quality of “parks” makes me assume that the people in question were born with silver spoons up their asses.

These are my two cents…yes, that is about what they are worth.

For those who do not know me, I am 30 years old and have been skating since I was 13. In all of my time of skating I had easy access to very few FREE parks. It was not until I moved to Seattle that I actually skated a FREE concrete park (and that was thanks to people like gwood, bobcat, fiscus and cargo taking me to Vancouver BC). Yes, I admit, that when I was younger and skating in California and Idaho, that I had a shitload of places and people to skate / skate with. None of those places were free! It was sweat, stealing wood, building (sometimes watching your friends build…it was better for the outcome) or paying for the supplies. I must also mention that none of it was concrete…all wood…all ramps…lots of bad ramps… I love street skating…pools…vert…curbs…minis, and now skateparks….. As I recall (and I am foggy), skateboarding is about the motion, the excitement , the feelings and friendships that come with riding.

I also know that the old douchbags complaining are of the minority ( the way most of them like it) and that if they were the ones building the parks (some are), putting on the competitions (some are), and generally being involved in the community (please, do not read that as the “industry” just because you are unable to tell the difference…if you were involved with the the skate community you would understand) that the parks would be 10 miles square, filled with rails, bowls, hips, spines, launches, vert, curbs, minis, and on and on and on… I hope you all get the point.

Reality: Whether we are 18 or 50, right now, more than ever, there is more to skate than ever in the history of skateboarding. For crying out loud…we are even getting what we want…they are posting “No BMX” and “No Rollerblade” signs!! The bitching makes me ill. The general comments regarding the “state” of skateboarding and the quality of “parks” makes me assume that the people in question were born with silver spoons up their asses. I feel I must apologize for all the useless, shitbrained people out there that are incapable of realizing that it is good! Nah, fuck those shitheads, I’d rather skate with people like gwood, bobcat, guizze, the fister and cargo, the westiside crew and all the others that are making the rest of your lives so impossibly difficult, having to choose which park to go skate today….get the drift???? Didn’t think so.
