X Games Dubai 2005
…they are building this theme park 5x bigger than Disneyworld that will contain the biggest skatepark in the world, indoor snow sports (called the snow dome), surfing, and moto-x. This place is unreal. I’m moving here. Come visit.
The biggest mall in the world (with a snowboard park), tallest building in the world, the only 7 star hotel in the world, massive man made islands in the shape of the world (yes, you can actually buy a country to put your house on), and now the best skaters, moto-x, and bmx riders in the world taking the biggest air and doing the sickest tricks. You get the picture, they like big things. X Games Dubai didn’t disappoint.
Young Arab men and women wearing traditional dress watched in amazement as Rune Glifberg backside tailslid his way across the coping, Sandro Dias spun 9’s, Buster busted big Christ airs, and Neil Hendrix destroyed the ramp with the beautiful Dubai Creek as a backdrop. It seems that skateboarding is here to stay and it damn well should be.
The turnout for the games was great, but if God picked one city in the world and dedicated it to street skating this place is DEFINITELY it. With a few days free I searched for some spots and… well… the spots found me; over and over and over again. Bank to ledge to bank to marble manual pad to 6 stair to bench to another marble manual pad to a 10 stair to bench gap to pyramid and on and on… You could literally film a whole skate video with one person (with enough stamina and skills) doing one really really long line.
