Tats rule, no question. Bad tats rule too, more or less for the people that love to snicker at them, but I digress. I have a lot of tattoos. Not crazy sleeves or anything. I’ve got a lot of scattered shit that hasn’t been tied together yet. My first tat was a poor choice, a tribal arm band, which is way lame, beyond lame. A major credibility hit to my, uh, credibility as a credible guy. It was my first and it was done at a local shop many moons ago. It was a shop that kids in my high school class would go to because the tattoos were cheap and they really didn’t seem to check I.D. The place a total was a shithole. It was run by this crusty biker dude. In hindsight I’m relieved that I didn’t get TB from that fucker’s gear. But that was a long time ago. I got a lot more tats that I like. I did still have that bad one that I dubbed the “Bon Jovi”, but other than that, I was a happy tatted camper. And speaking of tats, that’s where I will attempt to tie in Addiction Skateboards into this longwinded diatribe.
Kevin and his buddy Nate, who’s an awesome tattoo artist, have started up a skateboard company with a tattoo theme to their gear. Their first deck features a vintage eagle tat that really caught my eye. I contacted them and they supplied me with one of their decks. I gotta say, at first glance when it hit my doorstep I thought it was a Black Label deck. It was really impressive. The Addiction deck was an 8 incher, but they offer sizes from a heroine chic 7.75” to a Big and Tall sized 8.5”. So they’ve covered their bases well. And back to the Black Label thing, I’ve seen a lot of boards in my travels as the CD board reviewer/destroyer, and I’ve seen my fair share of ugly ducklings. But it looks like Addiction spent a little dough to get these boards to look retail ready. On top of the kick ass deck, these dudes sent along a set of their “Gold Fronts” hardware. They gots two gold bolts so you know where your friggin nose is. Dig it.
Great quality all around. And back to the tattoo thing. I did get the “Bon Jovi” covered up recently. I got a rad pirate ship on my upper shoulder in full color. I probably should’ve gone to Nate, but an opportunity arose, and I jumped on it. It looks sick! You should definitely check out this guy’s work at http://www.tattoobynate.com . It’s really awesome. I’ve got skin left, so I’ll have to make a trip to see him!
