Atwater Collection-Richard Sanchez
So, what do you do when it seems like every gimmick, logo, drawing, concept, and idea has been plastered, screen printed, and vinyl pressed onto every conceivable type of cut, material, and size of shirt? I mean really? How many more ripped off, rehashed, and recycled designs can we throw into the t-shirt abyss? With mark up on boards being $15 dollars at best skate shops have no choice but to rely on the soft good market to stay afloat in this exasperated and moribund economy. This perfect storm scenario puts heightened stress and pressure on the soft good companies to create and market a product that will enamor and capture the materialistic and narcistic eye of the American consumer. This being said we’ve all seen our fair share of banal and artificial designs, but I think we should give those clothing company suits a break. With the consumer market in its current state of uncertainty and peril they’re probably running on a few less hours of sleep, and couple less days of corporate paid vacations, unless of course they’ve kissed the right governmental butt and obtained a slice of the bailout pie, then they’re probably chilling on a beach in Hawaii right about now. Thankfully one of the heads at Atwater Collection thought of the brilliant idea to cut the crap, and stick a bare bones no frills piece of artwork onto a plain and simple t-shirt providing an alternative for those of you that still wear that Sacrifice t-shirt from 1995 that you’ve been clutching onto until the bitter, shrunken, and frayed end.
Atwater Clothing has enlisted the artwork of long standing Concrete Disciples associate Richard Sanchez to display on one of their otherwise blank pieces of cloth. The printing is spot on to the original drawing which many of you have already laid your impassive and listless eyes on. There is little to be said of the shirt itself other than the fact that it fits and feels like a normal t-shirt and dares not tread into the self-absorbed, tight-fitting, v-neck style of the Hollywood hopefuls and prodigal trendsters.
You can visit the Atwater website to view and purchase their clothing thereby supporting Richard, and pushing the retail stores that much closer to chapter 11.
