Vans Celebrates 20 Years of Steve Caballero and the Half Cab, Skate’s Most Iconic Shoe, at the House of Vans Thursday Night
More than 1,000 friends and family descended upon the House of Vans in Brooklyn Thursday, October 4 to salute Steve Caballero and 20 years of the most iconic shoe in skateboarding — the Half Cab. The crowd immersed themselves in a night of music, art and skateboarding in conjunction with the first-ever BOWL-A-RAMA NYC this weekend at Pier 62 Skatepark. Steve Caballero and the Half Cab are the focus of a year-long celebration with special releases monthly during 2012. The history of the Half Cab and information on the latest incarnation available this month, the Vans x Metallica Half Cab, can be found at vans.com/halfcab20.

Highlighting the night was a legendary skate rock lineup headlined by seminal three-piece punk outfit Agent Orange joined for the night by Caballero himself. Tony Alva and G.F.P with members of Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks and D.F.L. got the evening started, while originators of Skate Rock, Drunk Injuns, kept the show rolling in between as many of the world’s best skaters took turns in the House of Vans bowl.
Partygoers entered and were surrounded by the TWENTY photo exhibition curated by Lance Dawes featuring classic images of skaters wearing the Half Cab and photographed by luminaries Anthony Acosta, Atiba Jefferson, Ben Colen, Bryce Kanights, Dave Swift, Gabe Morford, Jai Tanju, Lance Dawes, Luke Ogden, Mike O’Meally, MoFo and Rhino.
Cab also handpicked many of his favorite artists to lend their talents in an amazing collection of customized Half Cab shoes. Those featured included Andy Howell, Augie Pagan, Big Toe, Billy Bakker, Bobby Brown, Chris Pastras, Christine Benjamin, Danny Miki, Dirty Donny, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Jason Adams, Jason Janes, Jason Tingler, Jeral Tidwell, Jimbo Phillips, Johnny Rodriguez, Keith Meek, Lance Mountain, MoFo, Orly Locquaio, Greg “Pnut” Galinsky, Rich Luna, Shepard Fairey, Sid Enck, Taka Hayashi, Tony Squindo, and Tanner Goldbeck.
