Saint-Gobain Skate Game:
new playgrounds to be explored
JULY 2024

From July 17 and for the duration of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Saint-Gobain Skate Game, a one-of-a-kind skatepark dedicated to urban board sports, will be set up on the esplanade at Paris La Défense to enable everyone to explore new playgrounds.

The Saint-Gobain Skate Game, a 400m2 skatepark in the shape of a giant pinball machine, stands out for its innovative, more sustainable, playful and inclusive character. Its 8 modules – including 2 launchers, 1 AFrame, 1 volcano, 1 double volcano and 3 benches – were entirely custom-made using 3D concrete printing at the Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix plant in Eindhoven (Netherlands). Using 3D printing reduces both raw materials use and CO2 consumption.

With this new facility, which is open to the public free of charge, Saint-Gobain, Official Supporter of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, further strengthens its commitment to offering sustainable solutions that improve urban life.

To carry out this project and make it accessible to all, Saint-Gobain collaborated with urban planning and board sports design specialists, as well as with the non-profit organization Pratikable. The facility is aimed at both seasoned athletes and those, ablebodied or disabled, who wish to discover skateboarding.

Vincent Matheron member of the French Skateboard Team and Team Saint-Gobain, selected for Paris 2024, was also called upon for his technical know-how. Luc Abalo, Team Saint-Gobain mentor, three-time Olympic Handball Champion and keen artist, has designed a giant mural to adorn the front of the skatepark.

Drawing on their expertise and creativity, the challenge was also to enhance the skatepark’s ability to blend into the public space and offer a living space that creates links between residents.

After the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Saint-Gobain Skate Game will be given as a legacy to a town in the Greater Paris region.

This project has been awarded the Grande Cause Nationale 2024 label: “Move 30 minutes every day”, which aims to promote physical activity and sport and its benefits at the heart of society.
