The first of two parks built in Fort Pierce in the summer of '77
Construction on Safe Surf began first, but Groundswell was completed and opened first, beating Safe Surf by just two weeks.
The park opened without a name and held a contest to name the park, a not uncommon gimmick at the time.
“Survival of the fittest” rules may have been at play because Groundswell only existed for one year, and its owners closed due to lack of interest from skaters. The vert ramp was brought over to Safe Surf in June 1978.
