With a few exceptions, New Jersey's parks in the 70's were small. Somers Point, however, was a size more akin to parks like those in Florida or the Carolinas, with longer runs and deeper bowls over 1.25 acres of land. Indeed, park owners Richard Stretton and David Platt billed it as "the largest park in the state."
The main attraction of the park was a 52 foot wide, 12 foot deep bowl which lacked coping.
Nine months after opening, the park was put up for sale. After skateboarding crashed in popularity, the park was offered up for sale as a "sacrifice" property.
