A rare boardwalk skatepark
Boardwalks are a phenomenon most commonly found in East Coast beach towns, and New Jersey is home to the largest number of them.
Perhaps owing to water table issues, there appear to have been very few skateparks actually connected to boardwalks. Ocean City's Wonderwave was one of them.
Wonderwave was a smaller park consisting of two bowls, a mogul run, a snake run, and a "pipeline" run that sometimes functioned as a slalom course. The park would admit a maximum of 45 skaters at a time, though reports from the time suggested that the busiest times of day only saw half of that.
The name Wonderwave was an obvious nod to the park's location; immediately opposite from the historic Gillian's Wonderland Pier amusement park.
