Built on the grounds of the Carolina Circle Mall, also known as "Grinder Skateboard Park" and "Carolina Skateboard Park."
Inspired by the activity he saw at the skatepark in Emerald Isle North Carolina in the spring of 1977, entrepreneur Bill Mauldin put together a corporation to bring skateparks to the Piedmont region; What resulted was the first skatepark in Greensboro.
Carolina Circle Skatepark had a snake run, a mogul run, a downhill speed run, and a 25 foot wide bowl with depths between 12 and 15 feet. Design was reportedly overseen by a young Winston-Salem pro who guided earthmovers as the park was being built.
