Amusement Park Skatepark
Today, Snyder's Darien Lake Fun Country is a Six Flags amusement park. Back in 1977, it was still in the process of evolving from campground/resort to amusement park. Skateboard City was part of the transition from one to the other, similar to what happened in Vernon Valley Ski Resort as it transformed into Action Park.
Beginning first with swimming, fishing and camping in the late 1960's, Darien Lake added a petting zoo and horseback riding, then tennis, basketball, and baseball. Then they built bumper cars, bumper boats and a roller rink. In the summer of 1977, they added five waterslides and Skateboard City, a 2.5 acre concrete skatepark.
