Mogul-style park similar to others in Myrtle Beach
As the matter-of-fact name might suggest, NMB was something like a sequel to Myrtle Beach Skateboard Park, utilizing the same transverse mogul design.
The park only lasted until 1979 as a functioning entity, and it was closed due to the extremely high insurance premiums that killed many parks of the time.
Unlike those parks, NMB was left out in the open for five years. Because the people who ran the park initially held it as a sub-lease, they just turned it back over to the main lessees, Carolyn and Royce Green, who simply fenced it in and put up No Trespassing signs.
"I offered it to the city, but they couldn't afford the insurance either," Mrs. Green said in 1986.
At that time, skateboarding was rapidly developing mainstream popularity, so NMB was constantly swarmed with kids.
"I don't want to be responsible for a child if they get hurt," Green said.
So the park was buried, and the land was sold to build the Kroger that stands there today.
