After doing 10 months of research, traveling to the skateparks of California and Florida, lifelong Columbia residents Barry and Kathy Brantley set into motion a plan to build skateparks in Columbia, Greenville, and Augusta.
Mrs. Brantley said skateparks were, "something the kids really needed."
Wave Rider was built for approximately $150,000 next to the Seven Oaks Shopping Center, but it was the only park the Brantleys built. This is one of the more common stories of skatepark owners in the 1970's: plans cancelled after the first park.
