Conceived by Columbia real estate developer Ken Uplinger, Challenger Skateboard Park reportedly arrived before skateboarding had really caught on in the area.
The primary draw of this modest park was its bowl, but it also had a banked freestyle area and a slalom course.
Since the park opened in September 1977, it was only open for a couple of months before weather got too cold and the park closed for the season. It re-opened in March of 1978, but Uplinger included the park in his agency's listings of properties for sale by June 1978. By 1979 the park was closed for good.
