Located on route 40 about half an hour north of The Concrete Wave/Concrete Surf, Earthwave was a project of entrepreneur Kenneth Silvera, Dr. Richard Bostrom and Dr. Richard Burt, and John Blevins.
“Our plan is taken from plans published by park builders, but we have modified it so much, you wouldn’t even recognize it as such.” Silveira told the Aegis.
The park he based Earthwave upon was Vineland New Jersey's Super Surf, and construction was reportedly fraught with landslides and cave-ins. This might be the fault of the land, or it could be of the design which included two large mounds on the outsides of the park dumping inward toward the center bowl and freestyle areas.
The non-coping vert pool was in the center, and the left and right sides were built into two snake runs. One of the snake runs was called the “speed run” and was much steeper than the other.
Earthwave was only open 11 months, and closed permanently in the summer of 1979. The property was auctioned off in 1980, and the park was partially buried.
The park enjoyed a second life in the late 80's when it was dug up and skated by a large number of locals. It was eventually bulldozed.
