The original developer of Nordic Valley Ski Resort sold the property in 1977 to a group of more than 30 local skiers and businesspeople who'd formed a corporation called Ski Associates Inc.
One of the group's first moves was to add a skatepark to bolster offseason attendance. Later they'd add new ski trails, add lights for night skiing, and improve slope maintenance, but cashing in on the popularity of skateboarding was prioritized.
The park was built on the mountainside and really centered on a single huge snake run. There was a beginners area and a small bowl, but the snake run was clearly the main attraction. It began as a 400-foot long run, and then expanded to 800 feet, and had the grading done to be even longer. The goal -as laid out in a blurb in Skateboarder Magazine (Vol 4. No 7)-- was to expand the overall footprint to a whopping 300,000 square feet and have the large run serviced by its own ski lift.
That idea was unfortunately never brought to reality.
