A park where a very famous accident occurred

The DeMent brothers formed the ominously-named Theta Corporation in March 1977 to build skateparks, and with a $200,000 investment, laid down Odyssey Skateboard Park. It included snake runs, ramps, downhill/slalom courses, and a freestyle area.

In 1981 after the park had shut down, a 14-year old biker named Todd Massey had a fatal accident there.  Within hours of Massey's death, his body was transported to Birmingham, AL where his heart was used in the first ever heart transplant in Alabama history.  Massey's parents sued the Theta corporation, and in the same year another family sued for damages because their son had fractured his skull at the closed-down park.
