In the Fall of 1977, three Knoxville parks were racing one another to become the first skatepark to open in Tennessee. The first was Orange Wave, but it was followed just two weeks later by Super Bowl.
The skatepark was added to King's Plaza shopping center as a venture of the plaza's owner, Frank Berendy. The shopping center also had a Winn-Dixie, Revco Drugs, Radio Shack, and more.
It featured a 100-meter long snake run, two figure eight bowls, the larger namesake "Super" bowl, a freestyle area, and an indoor arcade/pro shop/snackbar.
