ARK CITY, Utah., Oct. 27, 2016 – Woodward West announced today that a near-exact replica of the iconic Animal Chin ramp, made famous in the 1987 Stacy Peralta classic skate film,The Search for Animal Chin featuring the Bones Brigade, has been installed as a permanent feature on the Woodward West campus in Tehachapi, CA, and available for use by visitors and campers.
“We’re incredibly proud to install this symbolic skate ramp”, commented Gary Ream, founder of Woodward. “At Woodward we pride ourselves on providing youth experiences that also give us a chance to give back. By featuring the Animal Chin ramp, we’re giving back to the sport by empowering the future of skateboarding and connecting them with a piece of the sport’s history, and that feels good.”
Woodward’s Animal Chin vert ramp is a unique ramp exclusive to Woodward West. It was designed for use in an upcoming ABC television special commemorating the 30th anniversary ofThe Search for Animal Chin film. Tim Payne, who built the original Animal Chin ramp featured in the 1987 film, was brought in to build the replica.
“It was incredible to be reunited with the Bones Brigade crew thirty years after the film’s release, and to skate the Chin ramp again was a dream come true,” explained Tony Hawk, skate legend, original Bones Brigade member and The Search for Animal Chin film star. “Thanks to Woodward West, that dream can now be realized by anyone. I can’t wait to see what future generations will do on such an iconic ramp.”
The Animal Chin ramp will be the focus of the upcoming ABC special, World of X Games: The Search is Never Over, where original Bones Brigade members will join together to skate the ramp, do some of the same tricks and lines they did in the film, and essentially pass skateboarding’s torch to a new generation of skaters. The World of X Games: The Search is Never Over will air on ABC November 13 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Following the debut of the ramp on ABC, Woodward will drop Chin Ramp Sessions, a series of edits featuring today’s top pros and up-and-coming talent skating on the new ramp. Chin Ramp Sessions can be seen at Woodwardtv.com/animalchin.
The Animal Chin ramp will be open to Woodward West campers and visitors as weather permits during Woodward’s 2016 Winter Camp, and for future summer sessions and select Weekend Getaway sessions starting in spring 2017.
